World War I Net-Quest: Investigation

Each group will have its own list of objectives that need to be accomplished.  Make sure when you choose your country that you relate everything that has been talked about during class as well as what non-sealant research you may have done.    Each country has its own advantages and disadvantages.  Plus all of these depend on how each of the members in your group work together, unearth facts and research, as well as what type of relationships they spawn with other countries.

After you have selected a group, sorted out who will fill what role and got organized:
1. Make sure you read your goals are and formulate a plan as to how you wish to accomplish them.  Type this up and put it in your portfolio.  Your portfolio is where all of your work will go so that I can check it later to make sure you have been working together as well as individually. You will need to research these main components:

  1. We will try and use the information that was mentioned from class as well as from Wikipedia and the sources provided there.
  2. I will be around to make sure that everything is ok. ALSO I will be acting as the League of Nations head council member and will make the final decision.  (We’ll just say that I was elected before hand)  But if a lot of people do not like my decisions, then you can vote for someone else… But be carful, you never know how chaotic things can get).
  3. There will be three main meetings with at least three turns per country.  (We will be using a Risk board that I will make.)  That’s right were going to be playing risk in a way.  This is where the research on the number of troops you get is.  If war does come about (which it will inevitably) you have to decide where you want to be.  This is where the leaders need to work together to decide a war strategy.
  4. At the end I will be watching as things go on during class (we will have some research settings in class so I can help you get started) but from there it will be all up to you.  The point to this project is to give you a perspective of politics as well as how these nations work in a very general manner.
  5. Finally you need to make a group PowerPoint that brings to light at the end of the entire experience everything you learned, researched, and did.

With these roles you then must search to work with your group, stay in contact, and at the same time make sure you ahve everything your specific role requires. Use the knowledge we learned in class while at the same time researching with the help of the provided websites:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/worldwars/wwone/
http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761569981/world_war_i.html
http://www.firstworldwar.com/origins/index.htm
http://www.digitalsurvivors.com/archives/worldwar1troopstats.php
http://www.yale.edu/collections_collaborative/WW1/economy.html
http://www.indiana.edu/~league/

Only use what is on these websites, besides the economy one 2nd from the bottom. With that it tells you on the right hand side to go look at ORBIS and Wikipedia. I suggest you do this so you may get, an upper hand on those around you at the League.

GOALS: Depending on what country you are, you will have your own specific goals to accomplish as a group. But as an individual you will all keep a small journal of what you did each day to further the progress of the group. Each role will have its own knacks that need to be done. Those will be gone over later however. With the research you do for your specific goal, you will also be compiling everything into one portfolio that I will collect for a piece of your grade.
