World War I Net-Quest: Introduction

Like mentioned on the title page, your group of four are to pick a country and then decide how to go about learning the ins and outs of politics and political debate that effects the entire world, while at eth same time trying to achieve your own goals, and deal with situations that come about with or without your decisions.
Thus why you will be working with World War I to start. When the Black Hand assassinated Franz Ferdinand and his wife this send shock waves through the European community. It will be your job during this scenario and many more that will come after it, how your specific country will work with, around, or over the ordeal that unfolds before you. With this you then will have to do your specific role, depending on which one you chose.

Leader: As the leader of your country we are going to make believe that you are in fact at the League of Nations speaking, since in all reality the delegates that are there are the eyes, ears, and mouths of the leaders themselves in a way. With this role you will have to not only act the part, but dress it as well! (Extra credit) By doing this you will embody yourself in the persona that is your leader. And it will be your job to learn about him and become who he was. That doesn't mean you have to do everything he did, remember we are changing history here. So make it happen! You are the speaker of your group so be ready to do a lot of speeches.

Ambassador: The Ambassador is the person who goes privately to meet with fellow Ambassadors or diplomats. It is their job to work out deals, and simply carry on conversation with the other countries to understand what their wants and needs are in whatever topic you may be discussing. Having a good Ambassador means that you need to be funny, witty, while at the same time deeply respectful of your host. It is also a good idea to dress up (Extra Credit). Learn the customs of who you are going to visit, it could get you some brownie points! Remember you are the first, and usually the last line of communication.

Scribe: The Scribe is the one who keeps records of everything that is said and everything that is researched throughout the project. That does not mean that the rest of the people in the group do nothing, but he or she's main job is to record information. This role is specifically made for the numerosu sessions or encounters your country will have during the various meetings at the League of Nations. Write down key points, observe the reactions of those at the meeting and try to learn about them. You are the eyes and ears of your group. Make sure that your country is not blind and deaf.

Aid: The Aid is the head researcher of the group. His or her job is to research everything that could be for the better or worse of your country as well as those of your allies...And enemies. It is your job to make sure that the Leader, Ambassador, and Scribe get their facts straight and know about the other countries and their backgrounds. For if you do not do this you might as well just leave the table and become isolationists (Woops! Sorry USA!). Learn the ins and outs of the people, places, and countries you are researching. You and your group are going to need it.

With these roles you then must search to work with your group, stay in contact, and at the same time make sure you have everything your specific role requires. Use the knowledge we learned in class while at the same time researching with the help of the provided websites:

http://www.yale.edu/collections_collaborative/WW1/economy.html
http://www.indiana.edu/~league/
Only use what is on these websites, besides the economy one 2nd from the bottom. With that it tells you on the right hand side to go look at ORBIS and Wikipedia. I suggest you do this so you may get, an upper hand on those around you at the League. More information on this will come later.
GOALS: Depending on what country you are, you will have your own specific goals to accomplish as a group. But as an individual you will all keep a small journal of what you did each day to further the progress of the group. Each role will have its own knacks that need to be done. Those will be gone over later however. With the research you do for your specific goal, you will also be compiling everything into one portfolio that I will collect for a piece of your grade.
